I have actually been contemplating the same thing. My hair is dark brown (black according to some people). I wouldn’t mind a burgundy color, but “orange” on me would be horrid.

According to my research on the subject, henna doesn’t/can’t lighten your hair so the orange is an unlikely result. If you don’t like the result it isn’t a good idea to use commercial dye over henna, but there are natural ways to lighten your hair.

I used henna first and then indigo with (tiny bit)some salt and it came out purple, and I do mean purple on the gray. Not sure if it will work like that for everyone. It was a total accident.

dont use henna! if you use it and dont like it, a beautician cannot color over it. its not good. you can get the color you want from using professional color at a beauty salon.

I dyed my friends hair with henna once and her hair is a medium brown. It turned it this gorgeous shade of auburn. It was really pretty. Henna is really messy to work with but it did a really awesome job of giving her hair a light hint of red.

r u talking about natural henna or coloring henna?
anyhow use a 3 or 4 c.m brush. ussually using for dyeing.

Tips on Using natural henna with indigo

It is not really necessary to use a brush, just section your hair and smush henna into each section as you go. Be sure to massage it into the entire length and put on a shower cap and leave it on for several hours.
It is not good to brush wet hair as it breaks it off.
You can put the henna into a squirt bottle or just use your hands, be sure to wear gloves when doing this since it will dye your hands too.

use an old toothbrush. it spreads out the henna evenly.
