Try putting waterproof sunscreen on it, keep it out of the sun and rinse it off as soon as you get out of the pool/ocean, but don’t scrub it, only wash gently with mild soap.
If your swimming, its not going to last as long as it would if you stayed out of the water, but you can still get an extra week or two out of the tatoo if you do those things

The best obviously would be not let it touch water too much. Usually, hennas would last for a couple of weeks but if you’re going to have to swim for a week, I think it would come off in less than half the time. You can try to limit the amount of time it will touch water and try to keep it dry most of the time. Do not put moisturizer on it or anything at all and overall, just don’t touch it.

Here are some tips to make your henna body art last. First, If you exfoliate before applying henna, It will remove the dead skin and keep the design on longer. After you apply the paste, keep it on as long as possible. A Lemon-sugar mixture is usually applied by the artist to keep the paste on and help set the color. The longer the paste stays on your skin, the longer you will have the design. The most important thing you can do after this initial set-up is to avoid any chemicals including lotions and chlorine. Henna loves Olive and Sesame oil, but other edible oils will work fine. Oil the design up before showering, avoid scrubbing the area, and pat your design dry. The point is to keep the skin on as long as possible in that one little area. Henna on your palm will last much longer than any other body part because the skin is much thicker there, and exfoliates slower. For frequent swimming, you can cote the design with Vaseline as many times throughout the day as possible, although I don’t recommend petroleum products for the skin in any other application. A very important side note; henna should be some shade of brown to red after the paste is off. The paste may appear black when it is wet on the skin, but the design should never be black. The so called ”black henna” that is sometimes offered at street shows and beaches is a toxic chemical and can permanently scar the skin and adversely affect vital organs.
