Henna History

In olden days, the fresh leaves from the tree was ground to get a thick paste. The paste is then applied to the finger nails covering the part around the nails and palm. The paste was also applied to the toe nails and leave the paste on the hand and feet for overnight. In the morning the dried paste is removed by washing hands and feet. At this time, the places where the henna applied becomes nice red in color and it will have a nice aroma. This is the method used till now in rural part of India.

Modern Day Use

In today's modern days, people are busy and can't afford time, a modified method has been found. In that, the leaves are dried, powdered and stored. When you want to use it, the powder is mixed with water and applied to the hand and feet. The professional people use tamarind and eukalyptus oil to be mixed with the henna. This gives the better lasting effect of red color. Some people add their own other ingredients to have a long last effect.
